Here in Illinois, winter knows what it is doing. This means the season can be long and brutal and might make you feel a little crazy. But, you don’t have to stay indoors for three months. There ‘s plenty of winter fun near Downers Grove so you can get out of the house and enjoy the beauty of the season.
- Ice Skating. Head to Prince Pond, Whitlock Park, and McCollum Park for ice skating. Look for the green flags to indicate safe skating conditions. Red flags mean the ice is unsafe and closed for skating. Hours are 8:30am through 10:00pm through the end of February.
- Sledding. There is nothing like sliding down a snowy hill to bring back your childhood memories. Bundle up the whole family and head to Gilbert Park, Obrien Park, Concord Park, or Ebersold Park for some snowy fun.

- Snowshoe at Lyman Woods. Rent a pair of snowshoes for $6 at Lyman Woods and enjoy the beauty of a winter forest. There must be at least 4 inches of snow on the ground for the course to be open. You can explore on your own or sign up for a free guided hike.
