How to Spend Christmas in Downers Grove

Merry Christmas

Christmas is a special time of year here in Downers Grove. Every week is filled with special events to spread holiday cheer throughout the community. Here are a few events to add to your calendar for the best Christmas celebration in Downers Grove.

  • Gingerbread Festival. This fun-filled festival is held the weekend after Thanksgiving and features a gingerbread man hunt, carriage rides, and gingerbread house building contests.
  • Gingerbread Hunt. Through Dec. 23, there will be gingerbread men scattered through local shops downtown. Print out a sheet and when you find one, get a stop from the vendor. Collect at least 14 stamps and bring your sheet to the Downers Grove library for a prize.
  • Breakfast with Santa. On Nov. 26 and Dec. 3, local restaurants will be hosting breakfast with Santa. Call the restaurant you want to attend to make your reservation.
  • Merry & Bright: A Victorian Christmas. On Dec. 9, visit the Downers Grove Museum to learn about Victorian Christmas traditions, visit with Santa Claus, see some live reindeer, and enjoy holiday refreshments. The event is free, but the food is available for purchase.

Which of the holiday events are you planning to attend this year? From all of us here at Packey Webb Ford, we want to wish you a very Merry Christmas.

Halloween In Chicago

To some, it is Halloween that is the most wonderful time of the year. And there is good enough reason for this line of thinking, after all: there are so many different ways to celebrate the spookiest season, particularly if you live in Chicago.

If you love Halloween (or are trying to get into the spirit), then consider adding these events to your list of things to do this month.

Basement of the Dead Haunted House

Basement of the Dead Haunted House has the distinction of having topped Buzzfeed’s list of “Haunted Houses Around the World That’ll Freak You Out,” which is well worth the visit alone if you have a strong enough constitution. Because freaking you out is an ever-evolving process, Basement of the Dead this year has added a zombie laser tag experience—“Zombie Containment”—and the XCAPE Z-51 competitive mobile escape game. If you’re not too frightened, visit Basement of the Dead at

Richardson Adventure Farm

Since 1840, Richardson Adventure Farm has been the place for families to spend an autumn afternoon together. Come for the chance to pick out a great gourd in the pumpkin patch and traipse through the world’s largest corn maze, stay for the 700-foot zipline and live pig races. You can plan out your trip ahead of time by visiting

Chicago Hauntings Ghost Tour

Called “One of the Top Ten Ghost Tours in America” by Haunted America Tours, Chicago Hauntings Ghost Tour is an all-ages appropriate event that has been featured everywhere from A&E to The Travel Channel. Join Ursula Bielski and her team as they walk you through allegedly haunted spots like the site of the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre and the Hull House over a fun, informative, and frightening 2.5-hour tour. There is plenty more to do in and around Chicago this Halloween season, so don’t waste any time. Just make sure that whatever you do, if you are looking to scare up savings on a new car, truck, or SUV, that you reach out to the boils and ghouls at Packey Webb Ford.
