Ford Adds Natural Gas Capabilities to 2016 F-150
Adding even more features to the toughest, smartest, most capable F-150 ever, the 2016 Ford F-150 will come with available natural gas capabilities. With this gaseous-fuel prep package, it lets the 5.0-liter V8-powered F-150 run on compressed natural gas (CNG), or propane.
“We surveyed customers likely to use natural gas or propane, and 72 percent told us they want to have these alternative-fuel capabilities available on F-150 with the 5.0-liter V8 engine,” said Jon Coleman, Ford fleet sustainability and technology manager, in a statement. “We expect the gaseous-fuel prep package will be even more popular than it was on the 2014 F-150 with the 3.7-liter V6 engine, given the capability of the 2016 F-150 5.0-liter V8.”
Starting this summer, interested customers will be able to order this truck. It will come with factory-installed upgraded intake and exhaust valves and valve seals. Once in hand, the customer can choose a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier to add fuel tanks, fuel lines, and fuel injectors.
And, you don’t have to worry about losing capabilities. A 2016 CNG F-150 truck has the same towing capabilities as a standard gasoline truck. And, minus the weight of the CNG system, has the same payload capabilities as well.
